University of Phoenix Senior Software Developer in Phoenix, Arizona


Under general supervision and the software development guidelines and technology standards defined by Apollo Corporate IT, this position provides a high level of technical expertise in the design, development, coding, testing and debugging of new software or significant enhancements to existing software to increase the effectiveness of information technology support and application for business operations.


  • This position designs, develops, codes, tests and debugs software for data warehouse applications in which a significant level of technical expertise is required

  • Works with technical staff to understand and analyze complex software problems and develops specifications to resolve them

  • May make suggestions or offer alternative resolutions for software problems or enhancements

  • Participates in the development of software user manuals to support the ongoing use and application of the software

  • May demonstrate software to others to introduce them to new or enhanced applications

  • Provide direction and support and assists in the training of less experienced software development staff to orient them and increase their understanding of more complex software development

  • May act as a team leader on less complex projects

  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent

  • May lead or manage a project. Provides direction and acts as a resource for less experienced developers


Basic Requirements:

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of software development as typically obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology science or a related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of software development or experience in a related field is required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Able to analyze complex ETL mappings (preferably Informatica tool)

  • Must be good at tuning ETL mappings (preferably Informatica tool)

  • Must be good at tuning and analyzing complex database queries

  • Extensive knowledge of SQL, NoSQL database technologies is preferred

  • Extensive knowledge of data replication and ETL technologies is preferred (preferably Goldengate, Attunity, TalenD tools)

  • Able to communicate effectively to business users, prod support and QA teams.

  • Knowledge of big data technologies e.g. Hadoop ecosystem, Mongodb, Cassandra is a big plus

  • A significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the software development field is preferred

  • Must have sufficient educational background and/or experience to qualify incumbent to work at the highest technical level on all phases of software development

  • Experience with the supervision or direction of other software development staff preferred.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers and department staff, as described above.

  • Must posses the ability to effectivly communicate with others, perform work in a team environment, and relay necessary information as appropriate.
